About Clermont, FL

“Choice of Champions”

The City of Clermont is one of the fastest growing cities in Central Florida and is strategically located just west of Orlando and north of Disney World. At a population of about 46,505 Clermont also is the largest city in Lake County. Known for our picturesque hills and pristine lakes, Clermont was founded in 1884 and incorporated in 1916. It has the amenities and assets that make it an attractive location for families, new businesses, educational endeavors, office development and health and fitness opportunities. With about 19 square miles, Clermont is Open for Business and offers everything for growing families, too. Health, wellness and fitness are all part of Clermont’s culture.

The quality of life in and around Clermont makes it a prime destination for those looking to settle in Central Florida. Local stores offer a variety of shopping and dining options along with ample sports facilities and waterfront activities. Clermont has housing choices for every income level, from gated golf course communities and larger estate homes to small and mid-sized single-family units on platted lots. As a community of families, Clermont promotes diversity, inclusiveness and civic pride. Orlando is approximately 20 minutes east, and professional sports teams such as the Orlando Magic (basketball) and the Orlando Solar Bears (hockey) are available to see, along with the Bob Carr Performing Arts Center for theater.

Our local theater scene features the Clermont Performing Arts Center — a 1,200-seat performance hall, which is the largest in the county, as well as a 250-seat black-box theater. The newly refurbished center is part of the 69,000-square-foot Clermont Arts and Recreation Center at  3700 S. Highway 27, atop the hills of Clermont overlooking Lake Felter. The Clermont City Center is located downtown and is available to rent through the South Lake Chamber of Commerce.

Downtown Clermont is the core area of Clermont, located between State Road 50 and the south shore of Lake Minneola. This area provides a variety of unique retail shops, restaurants and businesses, as well as the South Lake Art League, the Clermont City Center and Clermont City Hall. Also located at the west end of downtown is the Clermont Historic Village Museum.

The City of Clermont is governed by five elected city council members, including the mayor, as well as a city manager in a Council-Manager form of government. The city manager serves as the chief executive officer, handling day-to-day operations overseeing 12 departments and about 400 employees.

Citizens also participate in local government by serving on several advisory boards. The public is invited to attend city council meetings, which are held at 6:30 p.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month.
